BOE Huacan Micro LED mass production “twin stars”: COW+MPD! Leave a comment

On March 19, it was learned from BOE Huacan Optoelectronics’ official microblog that the BOE Huacan Micro factory product delivery ceremony and Micro LED technology forum were grandly held in Jinwan District, Zhuhai City.

The theme of this conference is “Micro Chip Unlimited, Brilliant New Chapter”, which is divided into two major activities: product delivery and technology forum. BOE Huacan Micro LED project is the world’s first 6-inch large-scale mass production line. The pile foundation construction started in July 2023. After 20 months of hard work, it finally ushered in the key milestone of product delivery, marking that BOE Huacan has successfully broken through the Micro technology barriers and entered the stage of large-scale and stable production and delivery.

The project mainly produces Micro LED wafers and pixel devices, targeting ultra-large and ultra-small high-definition display scenarios, mainly used in large-size commercial displays, AR/VR head-mounted display devices and wearable devices. After full production, it will achieve an annual production capacity of 24,000 Micro LED wafers (6 inches) and 45,000k Micro LED pixel devices.

Mr. Zhang Zhaohong, Chairman of BOE HC SemiTek, mentioned that Mini/Micro LED is the next generation of new display technology with large-scale commercialization after LCD and OLED. In the future, BOE HC SemiTek will continue to use the Jinwan Micro LED base as a fulcrum to build an ecological closed loop of “R&D-mass production-scenario-based”, and work with industry chain partners to quickly promote the mass production process of Micro LED and provide customers with better products and services.

 

Product Delivery

At the ceremony, BOE HC SemiTek released the latest Micro LED products and officially delivered COW (Chip on Wafer) and MPD (Micro Pixel Display) products to customers. Mr. Wu Zhihao, head of BOE HC SemiTek’s cutting-edge technology development, introduced BOE HC SemiTek’s Micro LED product planning. With the development of AI technology, Micro LED has shown its application advantages in many scenarios. Micro LED is known as the ultimate display technology, with technical characteristics such as high brightness, high contrast, high response speed, low power consumption, and long life. It has significant advantages in image resolution, system endurance, twisted bending design, environmental adaptability, and industrial chain compatibility. BOE Huacan Micro LED factory has substantial technical advantages in MPD packaging, production line automation, mass transfer, and equipment localization, thus realizing the delivery of Micro LED. Mr. Li Bin, Chief Strategy Officer and Marketing Officer of BOE Huacan launched the world’s leading Micro LED series products. COW/COC’s new product 1530 has a wafer size of 6 inches and a chip size of 15±1.5μm x 30±1.5μm, achieving a high yield of 99.99%, diversified, high light efficiency with improved brightness, and good epitaxial uniformity. It is mainly used in electronic wearable devices, sizeable indoor display screens, AR/VR, and automotive displays. MPD’s new products 0303 & 0202 have comprehensively improved display performance and customer ease of use. They are currently the best implementation solutions in the field of micro-pitch and can achieve ultra-high black area ratio, optimal white balance viewing angle, and 2/3 improvement in die bonding efficiency. They are mainly used in semi-indoor/indoor display scenarios.
